A user recently asked me for some tips on how to get started with KloakIt. Here is what I wrote:
It is best to start with a simple test to "get your feet wet."
First, after you have completed the installation, what you want to do is create some cloaked pages. To create cloaked pages with KloakIt, you need a list of "primary keywords." These are the words and phrases for which you want good rankings on the search engines. The list should have each word or phrase on a line by itself. To begin creating the pages, click on the "Create Pages" menu item. You will then see a textarea. Type or paste your primary keywords in that textarea. Then, click the "Create Cloaked Pages" button. Your pages will then be created on your server.
The next thing you should do is test the pages. First, let's look at them as if you were a search engine spider. To do that, first you must put your IP address in a search engine IP list. Hover your mouse cursor over the "IP Lists" menu item, then click on "MSN". Click inside the textarea and type your IP address on a line by itself. You will find your IP address displayed near the top of the control panel, to the right of the KloakIt logo. Then, save the list by clicking the "Save" button.
Now, click the "List Pages" menu item. You will see both a textarea with the URLs to your cloaked pages listed inside, and a clickable list of your cloaked pages below that. Press "Shift" on your keyboard and click on one of the links to a cloaked page. This will open a new browser window and display the cloaked page inside.
What you see is what a search engine will see when they visit a cloaked page. You can change what is displayed to the MSN search engine by editing the MSN template. I do recommend that you edit all the templates to customize them for your marketing efforts. Hover your mouse cursor over the "Templates" menu item and click "MSN". You will see a textarea which displays the HTML which is your template. A KloakIt template is merely standard HTML with some special codes thrown in to allow you to customize each cloaked page. Underneath the textarea is a tutorial on what the various template codes do.
I recommend that you tinker with the template, trying out the various codes so you can see how they work. For help, you can visit the KloakIt documentation here: http://kloakit.com/docs/help.cgi . There is also a complete list of all template codes and what they do here: http://kloakit.com/docs/help.cgi?listoftemplatecodes
I heartily recommend that you take the time to read the KloakIt documentation, as it will explain what everything does and will give you an idea of what the program is capable of. You will find that it is very flexible and powerful. Of course, any program that has flexibility and power will have a little bit of a learning curve, but KloakIt was designed so you can operate it in a fashion which is as simple or complex as you desire.
